UMYF - United Methodist Youth Fellowship
UMYF at Memorial UMC is an opportunity for the youth of our congregation and their friends to experience the joy of true friendship by getting together for recreational activities and community service. The goal of UMYF is for our youth to have fun and share good times in a safe environment while realizing Christian values.
UMYF is organized by adult volunteers in the church. Youth in grades 6-8 are known as Junior UMYF and those in High School are Senior UMYF. Junior UMYF meets once a month to plan activities. Junior UMYF is a “youth driven” group. Activities are usually chosen through group consensus after discussion on cost, time, and interest. Junior UMYF is a first start for youth to experience leadership roles in a church group.
Both Junior and Senior UMYF participate in The UMC New York Council on Youth Ministries activities like the weekend retreat “Ignite”. These activities help our youth to look beyond our own faith community to the greater Christian community of the United Methodist Church.
